Not too long ago, my dog Bob, awesome little guy that he is, was injured roughhousing with another, much larger playmate at the dog park. In order to keep Bob from licking the abrasions on his chest, potentially re-opening the healing cuts, I was instructed by my vet to put a shirt on him. “Dog shirt?” I thought, “HILARIOUS!”
After touring the local dog shops and big box pet stores, I realized that there wasn’t much out there in the way of funny dog shirts, at least not what I thought was funny. So I bought a blank shirt, a magic marker and I gave Bob the coolest dog shirt in town: “I voted for Bark Obama."
Before long, every person I passed on the streets while walking Bob was having a good laugh over his shirt. It got me to thinking: why shouldn’t everyone have access to hilarious, fun shirts for their four-legged friends? Born from this startling realization: Waggish Apparel.
Good friend and soon to be business partner, Ben, and I spent the next week researching and exploring the online novelty T-shirt realm, finding that there were very few shirt sites devoted to man’s best friend alone, nevertheless dog AND human. A niche waiting to be filled…that’s what we found. Dogs deserve to be hilarious just as much, if not more, than humans do.
